DINO PATTI DJALAL: IN MY EYES

This story starts from a dream, a dream of meeting Mr. Ambassador of Indonesia for USA, Dr Dino Patti Djalal. The first time, I knew Dino Patti Djalal from my senior in Postgraduate ELS Unhas, he shared his files of Dino Patti Djalal’s speeches when gave a lecturing. As he told me that listened to his speech, it can make me learn how to deliver a good speech in English. Of course, I was so happy because I do really need to learn more about English. My senior really admired Dino Patti Djalal but unfortunately he was not lucky, when Dino Patti Djalal visited Unhas and gave a lecturing, he did not meet Dino Patti Djalal. Everytime before doing an individual presentation, I usually listened to Dino’s speech in English as it becomes such an energy to have a confidence to talk.

I got the news that Dino Patti Djalal visited Unhas from my youngest sister who study in dentistry faculty. She admired Dino Patti Djalal’s wife as she just know that his wife is a dentist. My youngest sister got the information from her friends. I was so surprised when I knew that information then I texting my classmates in postgraduate to come and join. We made agreement to meet up at first floor in Rektorat building. Honestly, when I watched Dino Patti Djalal’s speech in my laptop, I always think that hopefully one day I meet him and tell him about: “I just can watch you in my laptop” until it becomes true when I met Dino Patti Djalal I told him so. One thing I believe if you have a dream, believe it and it will come true because God listen to what your heart want to say.

            I was so speechless when I saw Dino Patti Djalal smiled at me and others when he came in with his wife and the group of people who come with him. I was so surprised and so excited, one thing I usually do if I meet a famous people, I usually pinch my skin if it is hurt then is not a dream, sounds crazy but that is the way I do (I have met Najwa Shihab a famous Tv Anchor then I pinch my skin as well hehehe). Everyone I am sure have a different way of expressing their surprisingly feeling.

I do like the way of Dino Patti Djalal telling as the information of a progression of one place which so accurate as he mentioned by icluding the numbers of statistical data. He sometimes said a joke, and stated an inspiring words such as “you are not just a student, you are a voice and you are a force” and he added some in Indonesia language he said like this: “kita harus merubah dunia yang tersekat sekat dengan being tolerant” in English “we have to change the world which chocked up by being tolerant”, for me this means a lot because there is a message of loving and being tolerant in viewing all the differences. Another in his speech he said: “kejayaan bukan masa lalu yang gemilang tapi kejayaan adalah prestasimu sekarang dan proyeksi-proyeksimu akan masa depan” in English “the glory is not a past but the glory is your present achievement and your future projections”. I do like to collect the wise words from anyone as long as it teaches me good things because one thing I believe that body need food to eat but the food of a soul is wise words.

            I do happy meet them and talk to Pak Dino Patti Djalal even in short time but I forgot to ask a question, that is possible for you to visit my small town Baubau, a town where I come from, in a south east of Sulawesi, town which has a widest fortress, famous with a many great sultanate. Many young people there like to listen an inspiring speech to motivate them to study, there is a private university there which called Unidayan, the only one university maybe in the world the first gate opposite by the harbor and the second gate opposite by the airport. I always believe in a dream always believe, perhaps my wish come true one day


 

That day so nice I had a talk with Dino Patti Djalal, one thing I can not forget he said to me “thank you”, and I had a quick chat with her wife Ibu Rossa Rai Djalal (a chief of Moeslem Women Association), a beautiful woman, a genuine smile, and a smart woman. Behind the great man there is a great woman. What a wonderful dream that becomes true meet them in Hasanuddin University.

            Let’s inspire people through dreams, efforts, believes, loves and embrace them with prays.
